The Sinking City 2 has 6 Inventory Expansion slots (+2 slots each, +12 total) spread across Chapters 2, 3, and 4. They are missable because completed chapters cannot be revisited via Chapter Select. The slots reset to default capacity in New Game Plus, so they only matter to the first playthrough. If you want the full +12 slots, collect all six before finishing each chapter. Plan first-playthrough slot optimisation or commit to NG+ — you cannot do both.
All Six Inventory Expansion Locations
Each Inventory Expansion grants +2 inventory slots, for a maximum of +12 slots across the campaign. Per TheClick.gg, GameRant, NerdSchalk, NoobFeed, Players.com.ua, VG Times, and Frogwares support notes, the six locations are: | # | Chapter | Location | Requirement | |---|---|---|---| | 1 | Ch. 2 (The Wake-Up Call) | Church Graveyard (star-locked crypt) | Star Key + E.R.C. Activator Pen | | 2 | Ch. 2 | Printing House (flooded lower route) | A.P.H. Key + E.R.C. Activator Pen | | 3 | Ch. 3 | Akeley Memorial Hospital Morgue | E.R.C. Activator Pen | | 4 | Ch. 3 | Hospital Gardens (northern gazebo) | None (loose pickup on a table) | | 5 | Ch. 4 (Time and Tide) | Fish Market Guard Post | Leyden Jar | | 6 | Ch. 4 | Jewelry Workshop (side room, NE) | E.R.C. Activator Pen (from Heart of Ice / Frozen Statue puzzle) | The Hospital Gardens expansion (Ch. 3) is the easiest — a loose pickup on a gazebo table. The Jewelry Workshop expansion (Ch. 4) requires solving the Antikythera / Frozen Statue puzzle to obtain the Heart of Ice, which spawns an E.R.C. Activator Pen nearby; use the pen on the Jewelry Workshop crate.
How Emergency Relief Crates Work
Five of the six Inventory Expansion slots are gated by Emergency Relief Crates (E.R.C. Crates), which require an E.R.C. Activator Pen to open. The Pen is consumed on use (single-use), and the Pen usually appears elsewhere in the same chapter or area — backtrack after finding one. A crate may appear before its pen is reachable, so do not assume a crate is permanently locked if the pen is not yet in hand. Tips from the launch-window coverage: - Do not waste a pen on crates that contain only ammo or Dream Essence; save it for one that holds an Inventory Expansion or weapon upgrade. - The Fire Station E.R.C. (Ch. 2) contains only Shotgun Shells + Dream Essence; skip it on your first pass if your pen is limited. - Always search dungeon tables in addition to E.R.C. crates; some expansions sit on ordinary tables (the gazebo pickup in Ch. 3, and the Guard Post table in Ch. 4).
NG+ Reset Behaviour
Inventory Expansion slots reset to default capacity in New Game Plus. Per NerdSchalk's New Game Plus items, lore, and carryover guide, NG+ carries over perk points, perks, and items from the completed save, but story progress resets — and so do any chapter-gated pickups like the Inventory Expansion slots. The slots are therefore only relevant to the first playthrough. Plan your first-run slot optimisation or commit to NG+; you cannot do both.
The No-Chapter-Replay Missable Rule
The Inventory Expansions are missable because completed chapters cannot be freely revisited via Chapter Select. If you skip an expansion in Chapter 2 and finish the chapter, you cannot return to it without starting a new save. The same rule applies to the eight missable optional investigations, the four weapon pickups, the Mushroom Jack broadcasts, and the Emergency Relief Crate keys. The single-playthrough collection route is documented on the [/achievements](/achievements) page.
